Is Laminate Safe If A Ply Fails

I m trying to decide between using plywood and particle board.

Is laminate safe if a ply fails.

When stress in the first ply or a first group of plies is high enough it fails. This point of failure is the first ply failure fpf beyond which a laminate can still carry the load. Carpet is the only exception. This ply can only fail once.

In this study failure is defined as maximum ply damage. But if the first ply has failed as a result of fiber failure it cannot fail again through matrix failure. It s possible that a manufacturer could make a highly durable 7mm laminate. I wanted to do solid surface but maunfacturers won t sell to you unless you are certified.
